Living Material Drug Delivery Platform

We aim to produce therapeutic modalities from living cells and establish a new living material platform for antigen and protein biologics delivery. In situ production of protein fragments that can elicit a robust immune response from living materials will allow for user-friendly administration methods for recombinant proteins. Our engineered polymeric scaffolds achieve secure biocontainment– an important criterion to prevent unwanted biological responses. This approach will establish a platform technology that bypasses the existing challenges of protein aggregation during storage and supply chain. We also envision this platform to be expanded into delivering protein biologics to the gastrointestinal tract.
